Worldliness
For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own
soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? - (Matthew 16:26)
If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of
the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth
you. - (John 15:19)
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of
your mind, that ye may prove what [is] that good, and acceptable, and perfect,
will of God. - (Romans 12:2)
But this I say, brethren, the time [is] short: it remaineth, that both they that
have wives be as though they had none; And they that weep, as though they wept
not; and they that rejoice, as though they rejoiced not; and they that buy, as
though they possessed not; And they that use this world, as not abusing [it]:
for the fashion of this world passeth away. - (1 Corinthians 7:29-31)
Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. - (Colossians 3:2)
Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly,
righteously, and godly, in this present world; - (Titus 2:12)
Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is
enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy
of God. - (James 4:4)
Love not the world, neither the things [that are] in the world. If any man love
the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that [is] in the world,
the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not
of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust
thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever. - (1 John 2:15-17) |
