Wealth
And
thou say in thine heart, My power and the might of mine hand hath gotten me this
wealth. But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee
power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy
fathers, as it is this day. (Deuteronomy 8:17-18)
And God said to Solomon, Because this was in thine heart, and thou hast not
asked riches, wealth, or honour, nor the life of thine enemies, neither yet hast
asked long life; but hast asked wisdom and knowledge for thyself, that thou
mayest judge my people, over whom I have made thee king: Wisdom and knowledge is
granted unto thee; and I will give thee riches, and wealth, and honour, such as
none of the kings have had that have been before thee, neither shall there any
after thee have the like. (2 Chronicles 1:11-12)
Wherefore do the wicked live, become old, yea, are mighty in power? Their seed
is established in their sight with them, and their offspring before their eyes.
Their houses are safe from fear, neither is the rod of God upon them. Their bull
gendereth, and faileth not; their cow calveth, and casteth not her calf. They
send forth their little ones like a flock, and their children dance. They take
the timbrel and harp, and rejoice at the sound of the organ. They spend their
days in wealth, and in a moment go down to the grave. (Job 21:7-13)
They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their
riches; None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a
ransom for him: (Psalms 49:6-7)
Praise ye the LORD. Blessed is the man that feareth the LORD, that delighteth
greatly in his commandments. His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation
of the upright shall be blessed. Wealth and riches shall be in his house: and
his righteousness endureth for ever. (Psalms 112:1-3)
Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour
shall increase. (Proverbs 13:11)
Every man also to whom God hath given riches and wealth, and hath given him
power to eat thereof, and to take his portion, and to rejoice in his labour;
this is the gift of God. (Ecclesiastes 5:19)
But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth
corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your
treasure is, there will your heart be also. (Matthew 6:21)
Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which
when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that
he hath, and buyeth that field. (Matthew 13:44)
And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I
do, that I may have eternal life? And he said unto him, Why callest thou me
good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into
life, keep the commandments. He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do
no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not
bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy
neighbour as thyself. The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept
from my youth up: what lack I yet? Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect,
go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure
in heaven: and come and follow me. But when the young man heard that saying, he
went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions. Then said Jesus unto his
disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the
kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 19:16-23)
Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon
you. Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten. Your gold and
silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and
shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the
last days. (James 5:1-3)
