Suffering For Christ
And if children, then
heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with
him, that we may be also glorified together. For I reckon that the sufferings of
this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be
revealed in us. For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the
manifestation of the sons of God. For the creature was made subject to vanity,
not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope, Because
the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into
the glorious liberty of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. And not only they, but
ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves
groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the
redemption of our
body. (Romans 8:17-23)
Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should
pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with
groanings which cannot be uttered. (Romans 8:26)
And labour, working with our own hands: being reviled, we bless; being
persecuted, we suffer it: Being defamed, we intreat: we are made as the filth of
the world, and are the offscouring of all things unto this day. (1 Corinthians
4:12-13)
And our hope of you is stedfast, knowing, that as ye are partakers of the
sufferings, so shall ye be also of the consolation. (2 Corinthians 1:7)
For we which live are alway delivered unto death for Jesus' sake, that the life
also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh. (2 Corinthians 4:11)
So then death worketh in us, but life in you. We having the same spirit of
faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we
also believe, and therefore speak; Knowing that he which raised up the Lord
Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you. For all
things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving
of many redound to the glory of God. For which cause we faint not; but though
our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. For our light
affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and
eternal weight of glory; While we look not at the things which are seen, but at
the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but
the things which are not seen are eternal. (2 Corinthians 4:12-18)
For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him,
but also to suffer for his sake; (Philippians
1:29)
Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of
the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body's sake, which is the church:
(Colossians 1:24)
So that we ourselves glory in you in the churches of God for your patience and
faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that ye endure: Which is a
manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that ye may be counted worthy
of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer: (2 Thessalonians 1:4-5)
If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny
us: (2 Timothy 2:12)
Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an
example of suffering affliction, and of patience. (James 5:10)
But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his
glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy. If ye be
reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of
God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is
glorified. (1 Peter 4:13-14)
But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ
Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish,
strengthen, settle you. (1 Peter 5:10)
