Wealth
Wherever riches have increased, the essence of religion has decreased in the
same proportion. Therefore I do not see how it is possible in the nature of
things for any revival of religion to continue long. For religion must
necessarily produce both industry and frugality, and these cannot but produce
riches. But as riches increase, so will pride, anger, and love of the world in
all its branches. - John Wesley
Riches are the least worthy of gifts which God can give a man. What are they to
God's word, to bodily gifts, such as beauty and health, or to the gifts of the
mind, such as understanding, skill, wisdom! Yet men toil for them day and night,
and take no rest. Therefore God commonly gives riches to foolish people, to whom
he gives nothing else. - Martin Luther
A dreadful thing is the love of money! It disables both eyes and ears, and makes
men worse to deal with than a wild beast, allowing a man to consider neither
conscience nor friendship nor fellowship nor salvation. - John Chrysostom
When wealth is lost, nothing is lost; when health is lost, something is lost;
when character is lost, all is lost. - Billy Graham |
